Stage And Silver Screen - The Dancers

New In July, 2000

A musical journey including hits sung by Fred Astaire & Gene Kelly in their films. Two great dancers who introduced some of the biggest songs of the last 100 years. They were the only two male dancers to become major stars on the silver screen. There were other dancers like Donald O'Connor who were great, but never became quite as big a star. Following is some of the intro dialogue and a complete song list.

...Frederick Austerlitz was born on May 10, 1899 in Omaha, Nebraska. In 1904 his mother changed his name to Fred Astaire (his grandmother's maiden name) because as she said, "Austerlitz wouldn't look good on the theater bills." Eugene Curran Kelly was born on August 12, 1912 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In both cases their mothers introduced them to the arts. Fred began vaudeville at age five with his older sister Adele and Gene began at age 8 with "The Five Kelly's" - Jay, Jim, Gene, Louise and Fred. Eventually it was just Gene and Fred performing as the Kelly Brothers....
