Perry Como
Original program September, 2001 - Redone With Background Music April 2005
This new show has the punch of a full band. I've pre-recorded drums, bass, piano, vocals, strings, and background guitar solos. Close your eyes and you'll hear four more of me. I just can't play it all live!
Bing Crosby once called him "the man who invented casual." Preferring a sweater to a tux, he sang his way into the heart of America from a barbershop in Pennsylvania, to five years with Ted Weems, to radio, film & TV shows, including his beloved Christmas specials. Have you ever read a book about Perry Como? No. No on ever wrote one. There was no scandal to write about. Six nights a week he was home with his wife and family. He didn't have to prove anything to anyone. He didn't act like a big shot. Maybe that's why he was so popular. He acted more like a little shot, similar to the rest of us. There are some songs in this show which were previously in The Three Cs, Three Crooners show. They were some of his biggest hits. I couldn't leave them out. Following, is some of the intro dialogue from the show as well as a complete song list. Throughout the program hear his life story between the songs.
In 1910 Pietro and Lucille Como, along with three children, arrived in America through Ellis Island, from Palena, Italy.... The family moved to Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania where Perry was the first Como born in America.... When Perry was just 10 years old, his father found him a job helping out around a barber shop. By age 11 he started his apprenticeship and was a full fledged barber by 13....
